Church Outside

We have a strong and active ministry to children and young people and over 100 children and young people attend services and activities here each week. With large numbers of Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals as well as many other special services and events we estimate that over 15,000 people visit the Church for these each year and we are delighted to welcome them and share in some very special moments with them.

St Michael’s is the largest Church of England parish in central South Shields with a population of around 14,000 and is largely residential and includes the historic Westoe Village, the award winning new Westoe Crown Village, the beautiful Sandhaven Beach and Sea front and parts of the town centre.

The grand and tasteful architecture of the Church building with the famous hammer beam oak ceiling with gold bosses, tasteful marble and mosaic and some fine stained glass provides an idyllic setting and serene atmosphere for private prayer, public worship and those special life events and celebrations.  Do come and visit to experience life at St Michael’s where you will receive a warm welcome.
